Men's Tennis Tabbed to Finish Third in ECC Preseason Poll

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team will enter the season tabbed to finish third, as per the East Coast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, released on Monday.

After finishing the 2017-18 season with an 11-7 record (2-3 in ECC play) and an ECC Semifinal appearance, the Spartans return five members of last year's squad, including; juniors Matthew Corsie, Enej Hasicevic, Jose Robles, Luke Taplin and sophomore Paul Voigt.

New additions Tim Fleerkamp (Jr./Waalre, Netherlands), Mitchell Harrison (Fr./Brisbane, Australia), Peter Molina (Fr./North Caldwell, NJ), Marcel Volz (Fr./Iffezheim, Germany) and Thassilo von Eysmondt (Fr./Frankfurt Germany) round out a very talented group led by Head Coach Matt Capell, now in his fifth season at the helm of the Spartans. Capell is the winningest coach in the program's history.

STAC is currently also ranked #9 in the latest ITA/Oracle East Region Poll, and looks to challenge the ECC's top clubs New York Institute of Technology (Tied for 1st in ECC Preseason Ranking) and Queens College (also tied for 1st in ECC Preseason Ranking) for a chance to capture their first-ever East Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championship and a bid to the NCAA's.

St. Thomas Aquinas returns to action on Sunday, March 3 when they take on Merrimack College of the Northeast-10 Conference. The match will get underway at noon, with location to be determined based on weather conditions.
