St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis players Tim Fleerkamp and Marcel Volz were recognized by the East Coast Conference with Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors respectively on Monday, after the Spartans went 2-0 on the week, with a pair of 7-0 shutouts over West Chester and UDC.
Fleerkamp was undefeated in doubles and singles over two matches last week, helping the Spartans to a pair of wins. In singles play, he bested UDC's Maksim Bahdanovic, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (8), and West Chester's Devin Paulson, 6-4, 6-1. Both wins came at the No. 2 position. In doubles, he helped the Spartans win 6-1 against UDC and 6-4 against West Chester at No. 1.
Volz was undefeated in singles and doubles last week. He won at No. 1 singles vs. Konstiantyn Kalchev of UDC, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10) and Chris Stucci of West Chester, 6-1, 6-0.
STAC (6-2) faces ECC rival Queens College on Wednesday, March 27 in a road match, which kicks off at noon.
