Men's Tennis Edges LeMoyne, 4-3

SPARKILL, NY - The St. Thomas Aquinas College men's tennis defeated LeMoyne College 4-3 on Wednesday in a heavyweight matchup of regionally ranked opponents.

After winning the doubles point, the Spartans dropped contests at 1st, 2nd, and 4th singles.  Staring at a 3-1 deficit, the veteran trio of Paul Voigt '21 (Cologne, Germany), Enej Hasicevic '20 (Palma de Malloca, Spain), and Luke Taplin '20 (Aukland, New Zealand) held court for the hosts.

Voigt dropped his first set at third singles 6-3 but battled back to take the second 6-1 and force a third set.  Down 3-2, the wiry German used a variety of shots to win the next four games to take the win.  While Voigt was dealing, Taplin displayed vintage form and won at sixth singles 6-4, 6-4.  The powerful Kiwi showcased a massive first serve and was deftly handled volleys at the net for the win.

Hasicevic won the clincher at fifth singles in dramatic fashion, utilizing a first set tie break win to keep the momentum rolling and took the second set 6-2.

The win moves the Spartans to 8-5 overall, and right in the thick of the region.  They next travel to Western New York for away matches against conference foes Roberts Wesleyan and Daemen on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
