SPARKILL, NY – Graduate student Enej Hasicevic ’21 ’22 (Palma de Mallorca, Spain) led the charge for the St. Thomas Aquinas College men’s tennis team’s 6-1 victory over Kutztown University Tuesday at the Riley Family Tennis Courts. Pairing with freshman Lennart Lehmann ’24 (Dusseldorf, Germany), the duo clinched the doubles point for the hosts with a 6-1 triumph. Hasicevic then made it a 2-0 lead for the Spartans with a 6-0, 6-0 win at fifth singles. Tallying two wins on the day, Hasicevic moved into second place all-time for combined wins with 94, and is now tied for the program record at 49 doubles wins with former doubles partner and current Spartan assistant coach Andreu Ferragut ’18 (Palma de Mallorca, Spain).
Lehmann pushed his singles record to 4-0 on the season with a hard fought 6-2, 7-5 win at first singles, and Kas Roosch ’22 (Hertogenbosch, Netherlands) got back in the win column with a 6-1, 6-1 clincher at second singles. Rounding out the scoring for the home team were Ivan Laiz ’24 (La Orotava, Spain), who took an 8-0 pro-set win at fourth singles, and Alvaro Barranco ’21 (Lleida, Spain), who won at third singles 6-1, 6-1.
With their match at West Chester University cancelled due to weather, the Spartans are next up when they host Queens College on Friday, with first serve set for 1 PM, weather permitting.
