Oceanside, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis secured its second straight victory on Saturday afternoon, defeating Adelphi University 5-2 at Point Set Racquet Club.
The host Panthers took doubles point, winning two of three matches to begin the day, before STAC cleaned up, prevailing in five of six singles competitions.
Lennart Lehmann scored a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Adelphi's Adi Saginayev in No. 3 singles, followed by Odysseas Papaioannou's 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Pietro Sole at No. 4 to give STAC a 2-1 overall advantage. An Eduard Simo win against Gabriel Balestero by the score of 6-2, 6-2 gave the Spartans a comfortable 3-1 lead, with the maroon and gold looking just one final decision to fall in their favor to take the match. However, Adelphi would stay within striking distance with a Marko Jovanovic 6-0, 3-6, 7-5 win over Maximilian Kendler to make it 3-2. St. Thomas Aquinas finally closed things out, as No. 5 singles competitor Ludovico Truffelli took care of business against Salomon Arce Lema 7-6 (3), 7-5 to give the Spartans their sixth victory of the season.
