Williamsville, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team snapped a three-game losing streak on Wednesday, with a 7-0 shutout of Daemen University at the Miller Tennis Center.
STAC opened things up with an outstanding performance in doubles play, taking two out of three matchups to secure the team doubles point. The duo of Eduard Simo and Ludovico Truffelli cruised to a 6-4 victory at No. 1, followed by Odysseas Papaioannou and Maximilian Kendler taking a 6-0 win at the No. 3 position.
Once the Spartans secured the doubles point, there was no turning back. St. Thomas Aquinas jumped right into singles play, taking all six singles matches from Daemen to secure a win on the day. Odysseas Papaioannou started the victory spree in the No. 4 slot, taking a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Valentin Baranyi followed the trend taking a 6-0, 6-0 victory in the No. 6 slot to give the Spartans a commanding 3-0 lead roughly halfway through the afternoon. Julius Upel took a 6-1, 6-2 win in the No. 5 spot to clinch the overall team victory, opening the door for No. 1 Maximilian Kendler (Win: 6-3, 6-1), No. 3 Eduard Simo (Win: 6-4, 6-2) and No. 2 Lennart Lehmann (Win: 6-1, 7-5) to keep the shutout victory intact.
