Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team extended its winning streak to four on Sunday, as the Spartans defeated Saint Michael's College, 5-2.
STAC began the afternoon, taking two out of three doubles matches, as Ivan Laiz and Julius Upel cruised to a 6-1 victory at No. 1 to set the tempo. The team of Lennart Lehmann and Valentin Baranyi would clinch the all important point for the Spartans with a 6-3 triumph at the No. 3 position.
The visiting Spartans carried that momentum into singles action, as STAC picked up three consecutive victories to start things. First, Lennart Lehmann would win 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2, followed by Julius Upel earning a hard-fought 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 3 to make it 3-0. STAC would take the match with a 6-3, 6-4 victory by Ludovico Truffelli at the No. 4 position. The Purple Knights would pick up victories at the No. 1 (6-0, 3-6, 3-6) and No. 5 (3-6, 6-2, 0-1 (6)) spots, before No. 6 Ivan Laiz would close out the day with a 6-3, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (2) victory.
