Men's Tennis Opens Conference Play with 4-3 Setback Against Queens

Orangeburg, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Tennis team opened the conference portion of its schedule with a 4-3 setback to Queens College on Saturday afternoon at Match Point Tennis Club in Orangeburg.

Queens opened the contest, taking the doubles point on the strength of victories in #3 doubles (Mariano Bibiloni & Tim Ostheimer def. Odysseas Papaioannou & Tony Khamassi), 6-2 and then #2 doubles (Kareem Rashad & Lucas Demuth def. Maximilian Kendler & Ivan Laiz), 6-3.

In singles action, Queens took the first two matchups, as #2 Mariano Bibiloni def. Eduard Simo (6-3, 6-2) and #5 Moritz Borges def. Ludovico Truffelli (1-6, 6-1, 6-4) to take a commanding 3-0 advantage. STAC would battle to break the shutout, as Lennart Lehmann scored a victory over Lucas Demuth, 6-2, 7-6 (3) in #3 singles. However, despite the Spartans fight in all of their singles contests, the visiting Knights picked up the match-clinching point when #1 Kareem Rashad went on to beat Maximilian Kendler, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.
