Newman, Tauson & Rockhill Take Home ECC Men's Tennis Major Awards, As Four Spartans Collect All-Conference Honors

St. Thomas Aquinas sophomore Seth Newman (Cambridge, England) has been named the ECC Men's Tennis Player of the Year, as voted on by the league's four head coaches and announced on Thursday afternoon, ahead of this weekend's 2025 ECC Men's Tennis Championship. STAC's Erik Victor Tauson (Malmo, Sweden) earned Rookie of the Year recognition while Spartans' head coach Daniel Rockhill was tabbed the Coach of the Year.

Additionally, Newman, Tauson and teammates Ondrej Sramek (Trebechovice pod Orebem, Czech Republic) and Don Vinz Lominoque (Cebu City, Philippines) were each selected for All-Conference honors.

Newman went 18-6 in overall singles this year, primarily playing at No. 1 (10-5). The ECC Preseason Player of the Year lived up to the hype, opening his sophomore campaign with an unblemished 6-0 singles mark en route to capturing the ITA Division II East Region Singles crown and advancing to the ITA Cup Round of 16. Newman also went 15-5 in overall doubles, including an 11-4 mark at No. 1. A two-time ECC Player of the Week, Newman went 3-2 at No. 1 singles and 4-1 at No. 1 doubles in conference play. Nationally, Newman has been ranked as high as No. 12 in Division II this year.

Tauson went 14-6 in overall singles in his rookie campaign, primarily at No. 3 (4-1) and No. 4 (4-4) while going 4-1 in tournament play. The ECC Rookie of the Year went 13-6 in doubles action, posting a 9-5 mark at No. 3. Against ECC competition, Tauson went 4-2 at singles from No. 3 (2-1), No. 4 (1-1), and No. 5 (1-0) and 4-2 at doubles from No. 2 (1-0) and No. 3 (3-2). The three-time ECC Rookie of the Week made the ITA Division II East Region Singles Semifinals, eventually falling to ECC Player of the Year Newman, 4-6, 5-7, and was ranked at No. 4 for ITA East Region singles and No. 9 for ITA East Region doubles.

Rockhill led the Spartans to a 15-5 overall record and 4-2 mark in conference play. The Spartans have reached the ECC Championship Final both years under Rockhill's direction and hold the No. 2 seed entering this weekend's ECC Championship. Under Rockhill's direction, STAC saw a pair of Spartans - Newman (12th) and fellow All-Conference selection Don Vinz Lominoque (46th) - ranked in the ITA National Top 50 for singles as well as five players in the ITA East Regional Top 20 for singles and three pairs in the ITA East Regional Top 10 for doubles.

Sramek went 15-6 overall in singles (primarily at No. 3) and 18-2 in doubles (primarily at No. 5), while Lominoque posted a mark of 14-7 in singles (primarily at No. 2) and 15-7 in doubles (primarily at No. 2).
