Men's Volleyball Falls to Merrimack in Five-Set Thriller, 3-2

North Andover, Mass. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's Volleyball team wrapped up its two-match weekend road trip, dropping a five-set non-conference thriller to Merrimack College, 3-2 on Saturday evening at Hammel Court.

STAC falls to 4-11 on the year, while Merrimack improves to 6-7 on the season.

How it Happened

  • As a team, STAC recorded 45 kills compared to Merrimack's 59. The Spartans also had a 5 blocks and 43 assists, while the Warriors tallied 8 blocks and 56 assists.
  • Kyran Versteegen (S, OH/OPP) paced the Spartans offense with a team-high 17 kills on Saturday. He also registered three service aces, three digs and one solo block.
  • Gabriel Vieira (OH/OPP) recorded a match-high 12 digs in the match. Vieira also had 14 kills, a service ace and a block assist.
  • Joaquin La Jara (S) tallied 37 serve assists (7.4 assists/set) and seven digs for the maroon and gold.
  • Nicholas Santos (OH/OPP) racked up five kills and five digs for the Spartans.
  • David Weiss (MB) picked up six kills, two digs and three solo blocks on the evening. He also had a team-best .333 hitting percentage.
