Spartan Softball Opens Competitive 13-Game Fall Season Schedule on September 21st

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team marches into the 2019 fall season after making history last spring.

The Spartans’ memorable 25-21 season rates as the most successful in the 35-year history of the program after setting a new STAC record for most wins, earning their first NCAA Division II post-season berth since 2006 and appearing in the East Region poll for the first time ever. It was STAC’s best season in Division II play since joining the NCAA in 2001.

STAC lost eight seniors to graduation, but Head Coach Kristen Sullivan has replenished the roster with eight freshmen from across the country.

“Last season was the culmination of several years of rebuilding and we pushed the program to a new level of success,” said Sullivan, who notched her 150th career win last season. “I’m very excited about the fall season because of all of the new players. We have a core of very talented and experienced players returning and I am eager to see how all of the pieces fit together.”

Sullivan will continue her tradition of scheduling Division I teams in the fall. The Lady Spartans played the University of Rhode Island and Fordham University last fall and will travel to play Iona College in a doubleheader on October 12.

The Spartans will open its 13-game fall season on Saturday, September 21 in a doubleheader at crosstown rival Dominican College and will host Bloomfield College on the following day. They are also scheduled to play Nyack College (Sept. 27), Post University (Sept. 29), Queens College (Oct. 4) and Concordia College (Oct. 20).
