STAC Softball Falls to Caldwell

Caldwell, N.J. - In a battle of two teams ranked in the NCAA's Division II East Region poll, Caldwell University used strong pitching and timely hitting to win a pair of games over visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College in non-conference softball action today. Caldwell won by the scores of 4-2 and 5-1.

The win upped Caldwell's record to 30-7 while STAC fell to 20-18. Caldwell is ranked third in the East Region with STAC holding the ninth position in the 10-team poll. The East Region includes 35 teams from three conferences.

In the first game, Caldwell scored two runs in the first inning and never looked back. Freshman Amanda Demmerle had two hits for STAC and teammate Carissa Della Vecchia had a double.

The second game saw Caldwell break open a close game with a four-run outburst in the fifth inning. Emilie Olivier led St. Thomas with two hits and Emilee Mayer played well in right field.

STAC, which owns first place in the East Coast Conference, returns to conference play on Saturday by hosting the College of Staten Island in a doubleheader at begins at noon at Spartan Field. Senior Day festivities will begin at approximately 11:15 a.m.
