STAC Scores 9-0 Win Over Queens
Flushing, N.Y. - The all-around play of Abbie Landrum and the hitting of Amanda Schweitzer catapulted St. Thomas Aquinas College to a 9-0 win over host Queens College today in the first game of an East Coast Conference softball doubleheader. The second game was suspended due to rain in the eighth inning with the score tied at 0-0.

Landrum, a freshman, allowed only one hit in five innings, before the game was stopped due to the mercy rule. The righthander, now 8-9, was in total command from the outset and finished with two strikeouts without walking a batter. STAC broke open the game with seven runs in the fourth inning fueled by Schweitzer's RBI single and Landrum's two-run double. Carissa Della Vecchia, Emilie Olivier and Amanda Castro also drove in runs in the rally. Schweitzer finished with three hits, which included a double.

The win pushed STAC's first-place conference record to 11-2 and 18-14 overall. Queens fell to 3-10 in ECC play and 3-22 overall.

In the second game, STAC's Carissa Della Vecchia pitched seven shutout innings before rain forced the game to be halted with one out in the top of the eighth inning. Tara Hagan (left field) and Kim Astrologo (second base) sparkled with their gloves to support Della Vecchia.

STAC next meets D'Youville University on Saturday (April 16) in an ECC twinbill that begins at noon at Spartan Field.
