STAC Softball Sweeps Caldwell Behind Stellar Performances from Landrum and Della Vecchia
Sparkill, N.Y. - The all-round play of Abbie Landrum and Carissa Della Vecchia vaulted St. Thomas Aquinas to a doubleheader sweep of Caldwell University today in non-conference softball play at Spartan Field.

STAC, which won by the scores of 10-2 (five innings) and 5-1, stretched its overall record to 8-11 while Caldwell fell to 10-5.

"Caldwell is one of the area's most successful collegiate softball programs so I'm very pleased with our play today," said STAC Head Coach Kristen Sullivan. "We endured the imperfect weather conditions and excelled in all facets of the game."

In the first game, the Lady Spartans erased a 1-0 deficit with six runs in the third inning. Landrum's two-run single up the middle highlighted the rally, which was helped by six walks and a wild pitch. Emilee Mayer's run-scoring single keyed a three-inning rally in the fifth inning that clinched the victory. Landrum posted her fourth win of the season with another effective outing.

Della Vecchia was the star in the second game. On the mound, she twirled a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts and received strong defensive support from Mayer (right field). Della Vecchia helped her own cause with two hits, two runs and an RBI. Her single scored the team's first run in the third inning and Landrum followed with a run-producing double and Hagan then delivered a sacrifice fly. Freshman Amanda Demmerle scored two runs for the winners.

STAC next meets Queens College on Tuesday, March 29 in an East Coast Conference doubleheader that begins at 2:30 p.m. at Spartan Field.
