STAC Splits With Molloy To Share ECC Regular Season Title; Raposo Gets 100th Career Hit

Sparkill, N.Y. - Sarah Clancy threw a five-hit shutout to carry the St. Thomas Aquinas College Softball team to a 3-0 win over Molloy University on Sunday at Spartan Field, to clinch a tie for the East Coast Conference Regular Season Championship. Molloy won the second game, 6-2.

It is the third straight season that the Spartans have won or shared the title. STAC finished the 2024 regular season at 29-21 and 16-4 in the ECC.

By virtue of a tiebreaker, Molloy earned the top seed and the right to host the four-team, double elimination tourney on Thursday through Saturday (April 2-4) at the RVC Sports Complex in Rockville Centre, New York. Queens College (3rd seed) and Mercy University (4th seed) round out the field. In Thursday's opening round, Molloy will meet Mercy at 12:30 pm and STAC will tangle with Queens at 2:30 pm.

In Sunday's first game, Clancy was in control from start to finish. The righty logged her ninth consecutive win and third shutout of the season by recording seven strikeouts and allowing five singles. Teammates Olivia Leon (catcher) and Amanda Demmerle (left field) excelled defensively.

The Spartans scored all three of their runs in the decisive third inning. Freshman Jessica Feerick singled home Demmerle for the first run and Eliana Raposo and Olivia Leon followed with run-scoring hits.

In the second game, Molloy scored six runs in the first inning and used three different pitchers to register the win. For STAC, Raposo's single to center field in the first inning was her 100th career hit. The sophomore is the 34th player in program history to reach the prestigious plateau. Teammates Tara Hagan and Elyse Marcano notched their 100th career hits earlier in the season.
