Nine Spartans Receive 2019 All-CSFL Honors

On Friday, the Collegiate Sprint Football League released it's 2019 All-CSFL Team, and St. Thomas Aquinas College is proud to announce that nine members of their squad have been selected for postseason honors.

Malyk Michel received First Team All-CSFL honors for his work as a Defensive Back, Ali Ajaz (OL), Tyreke Smith (DL), Maxwell Johnson (LB), Daniel Grossman (LB) took home Second Team All-CSFL accolades, while Kiel McKenzie (QB), Ernest Stallworth Jr. (WR), Jimmy English (WR) and Sheriffth Bittaye (DB) were all named to the All-CSFL Honorable Mention Team.

The Spartans finished the 2019 campaign with a 2-5 record; which included victories over Cornell University (39-19) and Post University (13-9).

All-CSFL First Team

Malyk Michel (Sr., DB, Nyack, NY) - Picked up 23 total tackles and 3 interceptions on the season. Michel was a key member of the tough Spartan defense. 

All-CSFL Second Team

Ali Ajaz (So., OL, Nanuet, NY) - A key participant in protecting his quarterback and blocking for the Spartan running game, Ajaz had an outstanding 2019 campaign.

Tyreke Smith (So., DL, Atlanta, GA) - One of the defensive leaders for STAC, Smith recorded 40 tackles and 1 sack during the 2019 season.

Maxwell Johnson (Fr., LB, Wilmington, DE) - Another member of the Spartan defense, Johnson had 42 tackles, 1 sack and 1 interception.

Daniel Grossman (So., LB, Thornwood, NY) - Picked up 28 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception and 2 forced fumbles on the season for STAC.

All-CSFL Honorable Mention Team

Kiel McKenzie (So., QB, Jersey City, NJ) - The catalyst of the Spartan offense, McKenzie completed 79 of his 149 passes thrown for 1091 total yards. In 7 games under center Kiel threw 8 TD passes and was only intercepted on 10 occasions by opposing defenses.

Ernest Stallworth Jr (Fr., WR, Pensacola, FL) - Another of the Spartans offensive leaders on the field and in the stats, Stallworth recorded 20 receptions for 403 yards and 4 scores.

Jimmy English (Jr., WR, Warwick, NY) - A jack of all trades, English racked up 23 receptions for 267 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns on the season for STAC. Jimmy also a major part of the Spartan punt and kick return teams.

Sheriffth Bittaye (Fr., DB, Bronx, NY) - Led the Spartan defense with 51 total tackles and 2.5 sacks during the year. Bittaye also picked up a interception.

The league's head coaches nominate and vote for the All-CSFL team each season. The complete All-Conference team, linked below, includes 98 total players split into a first team, second team and honorable mention.

In addition, Spartans Kiel McKenzie and Matthew Ehret was selected to the 2019 CSFL All-Academic Team. Each of the league's coaches was allowed to select two members of their team that they feel exemplify excellence in academics. Those selections make up the 20 members of the All-Academic team.
