Spartans' Opont To Represent Haiti At 2018 North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships

What was once a dream will soon come to reality for Rickssen Opont, as he has been chosen to represent the Haitian National Team at the 2018 North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships, a regional track and field competition, held at Varsity Stadium in Toronto, Canada from August 10-12, 2018.

Rickssen Opont is coming off of a spectacular year, where he won his first ECC Indoor Championship Shot Put title and set a new meet record of 15.91m, and placed third in the Weight Throw. He then defended his Outdoor Championship in the Shot Put and Discus, setting a new meet record with a throw of 16.04m. He also placed third in the Hammer Throw.

Opont was named a First Team All-Conference selection for the Shot Put & Discus, a Second Team All-Conference member for the Hammer and weight throw, and an All-Region selection in both the Shot Put and Discus. Rickssen closed out the year with a career best of 16.74m which is 54' 11" in the Shot Put, ranking him 31st in the nation.
