Spartans Diodonet, Opont Take Home Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Week Honors

St. Thomas Aquinas College's St. Jacob Diodonet and Rickssen Opont were named the East Coast Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week respectively on Monday, after the Spartans competed at both the Spartan and TCNJ Lions Invitationals this past week.

On the track, Diodonet was outstanding while competing in two meets last week. He won the 400m at the Spartan Invitational in a time of 48.19. He also helped the Spartans’ 4x200m team to run 1:29.17, which is ranked currently second in the nation at this time. Diodonet then ran this year’s fifth fastest time in all of Division II in the 400m by running 47.76 to take second place at the TCNJ Invite.

Meanwhile in the cage, Opont won the shot put at the Spartan Invitational by throwing a new personal best of 16.70m. The throw was a Division II provisional qualifying mark and moves Opont to the top of the list in the East Region and 21st overall in the nation.

St. Thomas Aquinas College returns to action on Friday, January 18th, when the Spartans compete in the NYC Gotham Cup at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY.
