Three Spartans Compete in Princeton Elite Invitational

Princeton, N.J. - St. Thomas Aquinas College Track & Field Athletes DeAndre Smith, Emmanuel Mena-Jimenez and Stephane Fortune returned to action on Saturday at the Princeton University Elite Invitational, in hopes of securing spots in their respective events at the upcoming NCAA Division II National Championships.

At the last chance meet, DeAndre Smith set a new school record in the High Jump event, leaping 2.09 meters (6'10.25") and finishing second, while Emmanuel Mena-Jimenez placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 46.39 meters (152'2"). Stephane Fortune placed 12th in the 110 meter hurdles, clocking in at 15.52. 

The Spartans now await the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Committee's decisions on qualifying numbers for each event at the National Championships, which takes place May 26-28 at the GVSU Track & Field Stadium in Allendale, Michigan.
