STAC Wins 4th Straight as Lady Spartans Top Nyack, 70-60

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team captured a 70-60 victory in a non-conference battle at Nyack College. Jenna Erickson led all scorers with 18 points while Adiya Henderson added 16 as the Lady Spartans improved to 4-0 on the season, with Nyack falling to 1-3 overall. STAC has now won nine straight regular season games.

Erickson opened the scoring with a three-pointer and Henderson added two buckets as the Lady Spartans jumped to an early 10-2 lead and held a seven point gap, 20-13, after one quarter.

Samantha Burden and Kaitlyn McCue opened the second quarter scoring, as a 9-2 run opened a 29-15 advantage. After increasing the halftime lead to 45-26, STAC saw Nyack battle through an even third quarter, by another late three by Erickson made the score 57-36 in the final two minutes, and despite a strong fourth quarter by the hosts, St. Thomas Aquinas was able to cruise to the victory.

Henderson added eight rebounds, Alex Bertolino chipped in 11 points, and Samantha Burden had 10 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for STAC. Bryanna Brown led three Warriors in double-figures with 15 points, and Janae Bailey added 13 points and 11 rebounds, though the visitors enjoyed a 49-40 rebounding advantage on the afternoon.

The stage is now set for the Lady Spartans' East Coast Conference opener on Tuesday night, a 5:00 pm start at Molloy College in Rockville Centre. Molloy, which played in the season-opening STAC Tip-off Classic, also enters the contest with a 4-0 record. The Lady Spartans return to Aquinas Hall on Sunday, November 27, for a non-conference tilt against Southern Connecticut State, with tip slated for 1:00 pm.
