Preston's Triple-Double Spurs STAC to 90-65 Victory at Georgian Court

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team cruised to a 90-65 decision in a non-conference game at Georgian Court University. The Spartans extend their season-opening winning streak to stand at 5-0 overall, while Georgian Court slipped to 1-2 with the setback. Emily Preston stood tall with a triple-double - completed before the end of the third quarter - while Missy Sadler netted 22 points to lead the way.

Preston and Zaria Thomas hit back-to-back threes to spur a game-opening 10-0 run for the Spartans, but late buckets from Ivona Krakic and Safiyyah Lee brought Georgian Court to within 22-17 after 10 minutes of play. STAC's tenacious defense held the Lions off the board for the first three minutes of the second quarter and allowed just four points in a span of over five minutes as a 14-5 run opened the cushion too 36-22. Sadler capped another 8-0 run and the visitors were in control with a 47-28 gap at intermission.

Over the first 20 minutes, Preston was a force, going into the locker room with 11 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, leaving little doubt by grabbing her 10th rebound in the final minute of the third as the lead expanded to as many as 27 while STAC dominated for the win. Preston finished the night with 19 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds to round out the rare feat. Sadler had seven rebounds to go with her team-high scoring output, while Ruth Adams chipped in 16. Lee set the tone for the hosts with a game-high 23 points.

The Spartans play four of their next five at home, starting with a big regional battle with Caldwell University in a 1:00 pm start at Aquinas Hall. They travel to Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday, November 26 before hosting Bentley (December 1) and opening their East Coast Conference schedule against Roberts Wesleyan on Friday, December 13.
