STAC Rolls to 7th Straight Win, 70-55, at Goldey-Beacom

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team extended its win streak to seven games with a 70-55 triumph at Goldey-Beacom College. STAC remains perfect at 7-0 on the season, with GBC sliding to 0-4. East Coast Conference Player of the Week Missy Sadler led all scorers with 21 points, Zaria Thomas added 18, and Ruth Adams came off the bench to chip in 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds for the Spartans. Sarah Round set the pace for the hosts with 19 points while Amanda McGrogan recorded 12.

After Sadler scored on the first possession to put STAC on top, Round hit back-to-back threes to give the Lightning a 6-2 advantage. The Spartan defense clamped down, holding GBC off the board for nearly five minutes with Thomas pouring in eight points as part of a 12-0 run to stake her squad to a 14-6 lead. St. Thomas Aquinas carried a 20-13 advantage through one quarter, and Sadler, Thomas and Adams accounted for all of one point in the second as the margin extended to 36-27 at intermission.

Though Goldey-Beacom was unable to draw closer than seven points from there, the visitors were unable to land the knockout blow, carrying a 52-42 advantage into the final frame. Any hope of a comeback was thwarted, however, as the Spartans' tenacious defense held GBC to just four points over nearly the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, as the lead expanded to as many as 18 in the final minutes.

The Spartans will now enjoy a Thanksgiving break before returning to action on Sunday, December 1, for a big regional showdown with Bentley College in a 1:00 pm start at Aquinas Hall. They then have an extended gap before starting ECC conference play against Roberts Wesleyan (Friday, December 13) and Daemen College (Sunday, December 15), both at Aquinas Hall.
