STAC Women Come Up Short in 69-52 Loss at Dominican

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's basketball team fell to a 69-52 defeat in a non-conference contest at Dominican College. The Spartans have now dropped three straight to start the season while Dominican improved to 1-1 overall.

A pair of early Lexi Huertas free throws gave STAC an early 4-3 edge, but the Chargers responded with a 7-0 burst capped by a Khay'la Latimer three-pointer. Victoria Kurisko's bucket drew the Spartans to with 13-10 but again the hosts had the answer with a 6-0 run before ending the first quarter with a 21-15 advantage.

Katie Bischoping and Huertas opened the second with back-to-back hoops to draw the gap to a pair before STAC's offense was held scoreless for over six minutes, with Dominican's 9-0 run opening a 30-19 cushion. The Spartans' offensive production would continue to struggle from there as they drew no closer than nine points down the rest of the way while the Chargers pulled away for the win.

Freshman Julia Reggio paced STAC with 12 points, with Kurisko chipping in nine to go with a game-high eight rebounds. Korina Guerra led four Chargers in double-figures in scoring with a game-high 13.

The Spartans return to Aquinas Hall on Wednesday, February 3, for their East Coast Conference opener against Molloy College at 6:00 pm before playing their next two on the road at Mercy College on Sunday, February 7 and Wednesday, February 10.
