STAC Women's Basketball Falls to Daemen, 64-48

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team saw its four-game winning streak snapped with a 64-48 loss to Daemen College at Aquinas Hall Gym on Friday evening.

STAC falls to 5-10, 4-2 ECC on the season while the Wildcats improve to 8-3, 6-0.

Sarah Ericson posted 15 points on the evening for the Spartans, while Katie Titus led all scorers with 21 points for Daemen.

STAC shot 27.0 percent from the field (17-63) in the conference tilt, while Daemen shot 32.2 percent (19-59) from the floor.

STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Eight different players recorded double-digit minutes in the contest. 
  • Sarah Ericson led the Spartans with two assists in the game.
  • Ericson made 5 of her 12 field goal attempts.
  • Daemen out rebounded STAC 51-41 through 40 minutes of action. Erin Leary and Julia Reggio picked up six boards apiece for the Spartans.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas forced four steals, with the Wildcats turning the ball over on 16 different occasions.
  • The Spartans scored 26 points in the paint to Daemen's 20 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Daemen netted the first four points of the game, but STAC battled back to tie things up. The visitors would then go on an 8-0 run to take a 12-4 advantage and maintain a five-point lead after 10 minutes of action, 15-10.
  • Back and forth action between the teams kept the score close through the first half of the second quarter, but the Wildcats would build an eight-point margin (25-17) at the five minute mark. However, the Spartans would once again battle back and narrow the gap to four (25-21), before Daemen closed out the first half on a 9-5 run to take a 34-26 lead at the break.
  • Sarah Ericson led the Spartan scoring in the opening 20 minutes of action with nine points. Katie Titus led all scorers in the half with 13 points for Daemen.
  • The teams would match each other shot for shot to start the third quarter, but the Wildcats would go on to take a 12-point lead to end the stanza, 47-35.
  • Daemen continued to expand its lead and built its largest margin of the game (16) in the final seconds of the contest to take the match-up in Sparkill.
