Women's Basketball Suffers 77-67 Setback to Georgian Court

Sparkill, N.Y. - Despite getting a 17-point effort from Julia Reggio, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team fell to Georgian Court University, 77-67 on Tuesday evening at Aquinas Hall Gymnasium in Sparkill.

Nine different players recorded a point for the Spartans, with Reggio leading the way, scoring in double-figures and going a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line on her birthday.

STAC shot 32.0 percent from the field (24-75) in contest, while making 16-of-20 (80.0%) from the foul line. Georgian Court shot 50.0% (31-62) and made 13-of-18 (72.0%) free throws.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First quarter

  • The Spartans and Lions battled to a 16-16 first quarter tie.
  • Julia Reggio posted eight points for STAC, while Erika Aspajo recorded 10 points for Georgian Court.
  • The visiting Lions shot 50% (8-16) in the stanza, as St. Thomas Aquinas shot 36.8% (7-19).

Second quarter

  • Anyssa Fields posted nine points in 10 minutes for Georgian Court by going 2-for-5 from the field and 5-for-6 from the foul line.
  • Julia Reggio led all Spartan scorers in the stanza with six points and Sarah Ericson posted five points.
  • Georgian Court took a 36-32 lead into the halftime locker room.

Third quarter

  • Chanel Brodeur-Muir posted six points, while Victoria Kurisko scored five points in the quarter.
  • Anyssa Fields led the way for Georgian Court with 10 points in the frame, going 4-for-5 from the floor and 1-for-2 from the foul line.
  • The Lions shot 76.9% for the quarter, taking a 60-50 lead through 30 minutes of action.

Fourth Quarter

  • Erin Leary (five points) and Karolina Jaruseviciute (four points) tried to power STAC's rally attempt.
  • Anyssa Field registered eight points for the Lions in the quarter, giving her 29 points for the game.
  • Leighanna Lister finished the night with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while teammate Erika Aspajo posted 18 points.
