
Rochester, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Basketball team dropped its third straight contest on Sunday, falling to Roberts Wesleyan University 60-49, at the Voller Athletic Center in Western New York.
STAC falls to 4-15 overall and 2-7 in ECC play, while Roberts Wesleyan moves to 2-16 and 2-8.
Trinity Cheatom posted a team-high 13 points for the maroon and gold, while teammate Cassidy Mahaney (10 points) also scored in double figures. Grace Dow led all scorers with 15 points for the Redhawks.
St. Thomas Aquinas shot just 22.8 percent from the field (13-57), while Roberts Wesleyan shot 34.4 percent (21-61) from the floor.
STAC NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Eight Spartans logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Trinity Cheatom and Alaila Thomas led the maroon and gold with three assists apiece on the afternoon.
- Cheatom hit 4 of her 11 field goal attempts and all three of her free throws. Cassidy Mahaney went 2-of-9 from the floor, but hit 6-of-8 free throws in the game.
- Roberts Wesleyan out-rebounded STAC by a 46-37 margin, with Syrita Faraj grabbing nine boards for the Spartans.
- St. Thomas Aquinas forced nine steals, with the Redhawks turning the ball over on 19 separate occasions.
- The Spartans earned advantages in four team statistical categories over Roberts Wesleyan: Points off Turnovers (18-12), Points in the Paint (22-10), Fastbreak Points (6-2) and Bench Points (14-12).
- STAC had its largest lead of the game (6 points) with just over eight minutes to play in the opening frame, 6-0, on an Iyana Morel free throw.
- The game featured three ties and three lead changes.
- St. Thomas Aquinas trailed Roberts Wesleyan, 30-23 going into the halftime locker room, with the Spartans shooting 19.2 percent (5-of-26) from the field.
- Trinity Cheatom led all Spartans scorers with eight first half points for the Spartans, while shooting 33.3 percent (2-for-6) from the field and 50.0 percent (2-for-4) from long range.
- STAC has now lost ten of its last eleven games.
ROBERTS WESLEYAN NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS:
- Seven Redhawks logged double-digit minutes in the contest.
- Grace Dow led Roberts Wesleyan with 15 points. Teammate Marianna Freeman (12 points) also scored in double figures.
- Freeman and Georgia Haverlock led Roberts Wesleyan with six assists each on the day.
- Dow went 5-for-12 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the foul line, with Freeman hitting 5 of her 13 field goal.
- Dow also grabbed a game-high 16 boards for the Redhawks.
- Roberts Wesleyan picked up seven steals, with the Spartans turning the ball over on 12 separate occasions.
- The Redhawks earned an advantage in one team statistical category over St. Thomas Aquinas: Second Chance Points (7-6).
- Roberts Wesleyan had its largest lead of the game (17 points) in the opening moments of the fourth quarter, 53-36, on a Marianna Freeman three-point jumper.
- Georgia Haverlock led all scorers at the half with nine points for the Redhawks on 2-of-9 (22.2 percent) shooting from the field and 4-of-4 (100.0 percent) from the foul line.
