Strong Second Half Lifts Findlay Past Spartans, 13-12

The St. Thomas Aquinas lacrosse team lost to Findlay University, 13-12 on Saturday afternoon. Samantha Lowney, Courtney McGrath and Caroline Finnan each scored three goals for the Spartans. Ruth Pluviose added two goals and Genevieve Stickney scored one goal and added three assists.

STAC got off to a strong start scoring the first five goals of the game; three from McGrath and two from Lowney.  Sarah Lankton scored the only two goals of the half for Findlay as STAC took a 8-2 lead into the break.

The Spartans opened the second half with another Lowney goal extending their lead to seven.  The Oilers played a much more aggressive second half controlling the ball for most of the half.  The Spartans put up a tough fight as Finnen's scored two second half goals.  Late turnovers gave the Oilers too many opportunities and Lankton's goal on a free position shot with :08 seconcds remaining gave them a 13-12 advantage.

Kaitlyn Lonergan had seven saves in a hard fought game in which 8 out of 13 goals were scored on free position attempts.  The Spartans will return to action next Thursday when they travel to Nyack College.
