Golden Lions Use Strong Finish to Top Spartans, 12-7

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team lost to Dowling College, 12-7 on Wednesday afternoon.  Alyson Brennan had three goals for the Spartans while Caroline Finnen added one goal and two assists.  

The Spartans got on the scoreboard early with Brennan's first goal off an assist from Finnen at the 21:40 mark.  Dowling responded with a three goal stretch over a six and a half minute span to take a 3-1 lead.  Finnen scored off an assist from freshmen Courtney Dumain to bring the Spartans within one.  Ruth Pluviose scored off a free position shot to tie things up with 11:15 left in first half.  

Both teams exchanged the next two goals as Dumain scored for the Spartans, evening things at four apiece.  The Golden Lions scored the final two goals of the half to take a 6-4 lead into the break.  

Brennan struck again to open the second half with back to back goals tying the game, 6-6.  The Golden Lions overpowered the Spartans in the final twenty minutes scoring six straight goals, two coming from Brooke Kreuscher.  Marist Parr scored the final goal of the game giving the Spartans their seventh goal with just over a minute remaining.  

Kaitlyn Lonergan recorded four saves in the game.  Dowling held a 13-8 advantage on the draw control.  The Spartans will return to action on Saturday when they host UDC for their final home game of the season.  Saturday's game will begin at 1:00 p.m., with senior day festivities to precede the opening draw.
