Spartans Fall to Mercyhurst in Season Opener, 19-7

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team lost their opening game to Mercyhurst, 19-7 on Saturday afternoon.  Sabrina Prestano scored two goals and added two assists for the Spartans while Katherine Borriello added two goals as well.

The Spartans fell behind early until Borriello connected on her first goal off a free position shot, making the score 3-1.  After two more Mercyhurst goals, Ruth Pluviose connected on her first goal of this season to make the score, 5-2.  Prestano's two goals closed out the first half with the Spartans down, 11-4.

Prestano assisted as the Spartans rattled off the first two goals of the second half; one from Caroline Finnen and the other from Borriello, bringing STAC within five.  The Spartans would not get any closer as Mercyhurst scored the next 8 out of 9 goals.  Emily Gebhart and Grace Lawson each scored 5 goals for the visitors.

Freshmen Sarah Quatro scored the final STAC goal, marking the first of her collegiate career.  Kaitlyn Lonergan had 12 saves for the Spartans.

STAC will return to action on Friday when they play Rollins in game one of a two game trip to Florida.
