STAC picks up first win outlasting Dominican, 14-9

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team beat Dominican Colllege, 14-9 on Wednesday afternoon.  Caroline Finnen scored six goals and had three assists for the Spartans.  

The visitors got off to a quick start scoring the first two goals in the opening minutes of action, both on free position shots.  Finnen put the Spartans on the scoreboard at the 26:53 mark, brining them within one.  

Shayne Gallagher scored her second goal of the day off another free position shot to give the Chargers a 3-1 advantage.  Alyson Brennan brought the Spartans within one off her goal at the 22:42 mark.  

Dominican extended their lead adding to more goals before Finnen rallied for three straight goals of her own to tie the game 5-5 with 7:40 to go in the half.  Emily Glennon had two assists and Erin Sleurs added one.  

Kaitlyn Gutenberger gave the Spartans their first lead of the day with her goal at the 4:40 mark. Gallagher scored her third and final goal for the game with a little over a minute to go in the first half.  Brennan added a goal off an assist from Finnen as the clock was winding down to give the Spartans a 7-6 lead at the break.  

STAC outscored the Chargers, 7-3 in the second half to secure their first win of the 2017 season.  Jennifer Farrell scored her first career goal and Gutenberger ended the game scoring the last three goals for the Spartans.  Gutenberger finished with four goals and Brennan had three.  

Katherine Feigenbaum earned the win with six saves in the first half.  Laura Delorenzo also saw thirty minutes of action in goal recording five saves.  

The Spartans controlled the offense with 29 shots to Dominicans 20.  STAC will return to action on Wednesday, March 8th when they travel to East Stroudsburg for a non conference game.
