Greyhounds Edge Spartans in Home Opener, 7-6

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team lost to the University of Indy, 7-6 in their home opener on Sunday afternoon.  Kaitlyn Gutenberger scored three goals for the Spartans while Caroline Finnen added two.  

The Spartans opened up a 2-0 scoring back to back goals within a thrity second span.  Erin Sleurs had an assist on each of the two goals.  The Greyhounds responded shortly after as Chalane Morrison scored on a free position shot.  

The visitors rallied to start the second half scoring the first three goals all within a little over a minutes time.  Kailee King had two goals and Anna Rulapaugh added a goal and an assist during the stretch.  

Gutenberger added two more goals to even things out at 4-apiece at the 23:20 mark.  Alyson Brennan's goal broke open the time and gave the Spartans a lead with 19:47 to go.  Both team exchanged a pair of goals as King struck again for UIndy and Finnen for the Spartans.  

Rulapaugh tied the game one last time off an assist from Morrison and two minutes later added the game winner.  

Katherine Feigenbaum recorded 12 saves in the loss.  Irene Carlquist earned her first win of the season.  The Greyhound had 29 shots to the Spartans 16.  

The Spartans will return to action on Wednesday when they host local rival Dominican College at 3:00 p.m.
