Women's Lacrosse Drops 18-8 Game at Franklin Pierce

The St. Thomas Aquinas women's lacrosse team lost at Franklin Pierce, 18-8 on Monday afternoon. Jennifer Farrell and Caroline Finnen each scored two goals for the Spartans.

The Ravens jumped out front early and never looked back. Anna Wilbert opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the proceedings to kick off an early 4-0 run. The Spartans netted back-to-back tallies from Finnen and freshman Arielle Rodriguez to cut the gap to 4-2, but Franklin Pierce seized control of the game from there.

Franklin Pierce pushed the lead as high as 14-4 by striking for the first three scores of the second half as well, to make it seven straight goals for the home team. The Spartans notched four of the next six goals, but ultimately ran out of time.  STAC received goals from six different players as Danielle Cajou, Kaitlyn Gutenberger and Gabrielle Di Fusco each scored as well.

Samantha Rifice and senior Claudja Dorcely picked up two ground balls each to lead STAC, while Farrell and Gutenberger each won four draw controls. Rifice caused three turnovers for the Spartans, who forced only six turnovers as a team, while turning the ball over 21 times.

Katherine Feigenbaum played the first half in goal for the Spartans and finished with just three saves against fourteen shots on goal while taking the loss. Laura Delorenzo took over for the start of the second half and made six saves against thirteen shots the rest of the way.  The Spartans fall to 2-3 while Franklin Pierce improves to 2-0.

STAC will return to action on Thursday when they host Caldwell University for a 4:00 game time.
