STAC Women's Lacrosse Doubles Up Caldwell, 20-10

Danielle Cajou and Jennifer Farrell tallied five goals each, while Leanna Iobbi recorded a four goals and Arielle Rodriguez scored three times for the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans in a 20-10 victory over Caldwell University on Monday afternoon at Essex Valley Field in West Caldwell, NJ.

McKenzie Schlechtweg, Jennifer Stevens and Micaela Ross also scored a goal each, and Laura Delorenzo made 10 saves to pick up the win and run her record to 1-1 on the season. 

The Cougars' scoring was led by Arden Kassaleh with six goals, Emily Lasko with two goals and Kelsey Maxwell and Samantha Murphy with a goal apiece. Goalie Monica Monacelli (L, 0-2) got the nod in net for Caldwell and stopped 13 shots faced.

Caldwell would score the first goal of the game, as Emily Lasko would make it 1-0. However, the Spartans would get the next seven goals with Danielle Cajou (2), Jennifer Farrell (2), Leanna Iobbi (2), and Jennifer Stevens all lighting the lamp to make it a 7-1 STAC advantage. The Cougars attempted to climb back into the game, as Arden Kassaleh and Samantha Murphy would cut it to 7-3. Arielle Rodriguez and Kassaleh then traded goals to make it an 8-4 Spartan advantage. However, the relentless STAC offense came on strong again, as Rodriguez, McKenzie Schlechtweg, Iobbi (2) and Farrell would push the maroon and goal lead to nine, at 13-4. Kassaleh would tally two more goals for Caldwell before halftime to make it 13-6 at the break.

Second half action saw St. Thomas Aquinas score seven more times with Jennifer Farrell (2), Micaela Ross, Arielle Rodriguez (2) and Danielle Cajou (2) all finding the back of the net in the final period of play. Emily Lasko, Arden Kassaleh (2) and Kelsey Maxwell would attempt to get Caldwell back into the game at different points in the stanza, but to no avail, as the Spartans would close things out to earn themselves their first victory of the 2021 season.

Shots for the contest were 38 (33 on goal) for STAC and 22 (20 on goal) for the Cougars.

The Spartans will return Sparkill to prepare for their home opener on Sunday, March 21 against Roberts Wesleyan College. Opening draw is set for 11am at Spartan Field.
