Women's Lacrosse Wraps 2021 Regular Season, Falling to Molloy 17-10 on Senior Day

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team closed out its 2021 regular season schedule, falling to Molloy College, 17-10 on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field in Sparkill, NY. STAC slipped to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the ECC, while Molloy improved to 4-6, 3-2 in conference play.

Leading the STAC offense were Jennifer Farrell and Leanna Iobbi with three goals each. Danielle Cajou, Micaela Ross, Arielle Rodriquez and Casey Hannon also chipped in goals for the Spartans. Goalie Laura Delorenzo (L, 4-4) got the start in net for STAC and stopped 17 of 34 shots faced.

Prior to the contest between the Spartans and the Lions, the team recognized their seven seniors; Jennifer Farrell, Arielle Rodriguez, Casey Hannon, Meaghan Burke, Madison Wood, Laura Delorenzo and Madeline Buechli for their contributions to the STAC Women's Lacrosse program during their time at the college.

When the first half got underway, Molloy took advantage of the pregame pomp and circumstance, and jumped out to a two goal lead on the strength of back-to-back tallies by Amanda Weber. However, the Spartans would get themselves onto the scoresheet via a Jennifer Farrell free-position goal to make it 2-1. Amanda Reyes would extend the Molloy lead to 3-1, before Farrell and Leanna Iobbi (2 goals) would put STAC on top at 4-3. The visitors would score the next two goals, as Hallie Ross and Abbie Bellport would find the back of the cage to put their team ahead, 5-4. The teams would then trade the next four goals, as first Arielle Rodriguez would knot things up at five all, then Weber would score a hat trick to make it 6-5 Molloy, before Casey Hannon would tie the game at six and finally Megan Schiaffo closed out the scoring to put the Lions ahead 7-6 at the break.

In second half action, Molloy would once again tally the first two goals of the stanza, as Megan Schiaffo and Lucy Emptage would score to put the Lions up three at 9-6. Danielle Cajou cut the deficit to two with a goal of her own to make it 9-7. Molloy would then push it to 10-7 on the strength of a Hailey Dazzo strike, before Micaela Ross would light the lamp to cut it to a 10-8 contest. STAC and Molloy would then trade goals, with Abbie Bellport and Jennifer Farrell each scoring to make it 11-9 in favor of the Lions. Molloy would strike for the next three, as Dazzo, Hallie Ross and Amanda Weber all tallied goals to extend their team's lead to 14-9. Leanna Iobbi's third of the game would be the final bit of offense by the Spartans to make it a 14-10 contest, but the Lions would again score a trio of goals, with Ross, Schiaffo and Weber all adding to their totals on the afternoon to make it a 17-10 final.

Molloy held a 38-28 shots advantage for the game.

STAC now prepares for the upcoming ECC Women's Lacrosse Tournament, which gets underway on Thursday, May 6. St. Thomas Aquinas will be the #4 seed and will take on tournament hosts and #1 seed Mercy College (11-1, 5-0). Start time for the contest in Dobbs Ferry is to be announced.
