STAC Women's Lacrosse Falls to #19 Mercy College, 17-3

The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team dropped a 17-3 decision to #19 ranked Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field in Sparkill, NY. STAC falls to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the ECC, while Mercy improves to 10-1, 4-0 in conference play.

Leading the STAC offense was Leanna Iobbi with two goals and Danielle Cajou with one tally. Goalie Laura Delorenzo (L, 4-3) got the start in net for STAC and stopped 13 of 30 shots faced.

Mercy opened the first half scoring with three straight goals, as Sydney Corley tallied a pair of goals and Juliana Keenan picked up one of her own to make it 3-0 in favor of the visitors. STAC would get themselves on the scoreboard on the strength of a Leanna Iobby tally to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Mavericks would strike right back, picking up two more goals by Christina Lopreato and Briana Corace to push the Mercy lead to 5-1. A Danielle Cajou goal would get the Spartans to 5-2, but the relentless Mercy College offense would score four more times before halftime, as Kellie Znaniecki, Kaitlyn Grzelaczyk (2) and Corace would all score to make it a 9-2 Mavs lead at the break.

Second half action saw the Spartans open the scoring, as Leanna Iobbi would make it a 9-3 contest. However, Mercy would tally the final eight goals of the stanza, with Taylor Bishop picking up four, Erin Shimborske scoring a pair and Briana Corace and Ally Schreck each lighting the lamp to give the visiting Mavericks a 17-3 victory.

Mercy held a decisive 43-9 shots advantage for the game.

STAC (4-3) closes out their 2021 regular season, facing Molloy College on Saturday, May 1. Opening draw is set for 1pm at Spartan Field.
