STAC Women's Lacrosse Falls to Dominican 17-12 in Crosstown Battle

Sparkill, N.Y. - The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team fell to Dominican College, 17-12 on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field, in a non-conference battle between crosstown rivals.

STAC falls to 3-6 on the season, while Dominican improves to 10-2.

How it Happened

  • Dominican opened the contest with four straight goals from Grace DeStasio (2) and Sarah Smith (2) to make it 4-0.
  • Danielle Cajou and Leanna Iobbi got STAC on the scoresheet with back-to-back goals in the final two minutes of the frame to cut the deficit to 4-2 through the first 15 minutes of play.
  • The Chargers extended their lead to 5-2 on a Jordana Tomasetti tally early in the second quarter.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas rallied to tie the game at 5-5, as Jennifer Stevens, Micaela Ross and Danielle Cajou scored consecutive goals.
  • Four of the next five goals came via Dominican College scorers, with Josie Lettieri, Grace DeStasio, Sydney Strohmayer and Jordana Tomasetti all finding the back of the net. Olivia Cerbo got one back for the Spartans to make it 9-6 in favor of the visitors at halftime.
  • Following the break, a pair of goals by Sydney Strohmayer and Erica Ortiz, along with a Jordana Tomasetti strike kept the Chargers in complete control of the match. Leanna Iobbi added a goal of her own to make it 14-7 Dominican at the end of three quarters.
  • Grace DeStasio and Jordana Tomasetti picked up early fourth quarter goals to increase the Charger lead to 16-7.
  • STAC began to push back and was able to score three straight, with Micaela Ross scoring twice and Danielle Cajou getting one to close the gap on the scoreboard to 16-10.
  • The Chargers and Spartans traded the next four goals, as Grace DeStasio and Jordana Tomasetti tallied goals, followed by Danielle Cajou and Leanna Iobbi to make it 18-12.
  • Grace DeStasio closed the scoring with her sixth on the afternoon, giving Dominican the 19-12 victory.
