Iobbi Scores Five Goals to Help Lead STAC Women's Lacrosse Past Post, 16-11

Sparkill, N.Y. - Leanna Iobbi tallied five goals and an assist for the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Lacrosse team en route to a 16-11 victory over Post University on Wednesday afternoon at Spartan Field. 

STAC improves to 2-4 on the season, while Post falls to 2-6.

How it Happened

  • Post University opened the first quarter scoring with Molly Dobratz and Morgan Cassiliano tallying goals in the first two minutes of the match to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Olivia Cerbo gave the Spartans their first goal of the day to cut the deficit to 2-1.
  • A Cara Distefano goal put the visiting Eagles back up by two at 3-1.
  • Back-to-back strikes by Danielle Cajou and Alexa Paternoster knotted the game at 3-3.
  • The teams traded two goals apiece to end the stanza, with Morgan Cassiliano picking up her second and third goals of the afternoon for Post and Julia Reggio and Leanna Iobbi finding the back of the net for the Spartans to keep the squads tied up, 5-5.
  • Cara Distafano recorded her second and third goals of the match early on in the second stanza, before STAC powered back to score three consecutive times, courtesy of Danielle Cajou, Olivia Cerbo and Jennifer Stevens to take their first lead of the game, 8-7.
  • Molly Dobratz scored a late goal for the Eagles to re-tie the game at 8-8, as the teams headed to the halftime break.
  • Following the intermission, St. Thomas Aquinas outscored Post 2-1 in the third quarter, as Leanna Iobbi and Olivia Cerbo struck once again for goals. Samantha Targonski was able to help Post keep pace on the scoreboard, with STAC only leading 10-9 through 45 minutes of action.
  • In fourth quarter action, the Spartans scored the first five goals of the frame, with Leanna Iobbi recording her third, fourth and fifth goals, while Micaela Ross earned her first goal on the day and Danielle Cajou picked up her hat trick tally to push the STAC lead to 15-9.
  • Post tried to rally late in the quarter, with Molly Dobratz and Morgan Cassiliano netting goals. However, Micaela Ross was able to get one more goal for the hosts to give them a five-goal advantage at the final buzzer, 16-11.
