The St. Thomas Aquinas College Men's and Women's Soccer programs showed their support for Autism at a campus event last week in honor of Autism Awareness Month. They joined their fellow classmates in "Lighting It Up Blue" to raise funds to increase awareness about autism and its effects on individuals, family and society.
The St. Thomas Aquinas College student-athletes volunteered at the Spring Day of Caring sponsored by the United Way of Rockland Country. Members of the men's and women's basketball and soccer teams offered assistance to numerous organizations within the community.
The St. Thomas Aquinas softball team beat Bridgeport, 3-2 and 4-1 in today's double header. Sharis Ruiz went 4-for-7 with 3 runs while Michelle Sasso and Heather Clausen each added 2 hits for the day. Clausen had 3 RBI for the Lady Spartans. Maura Power and Megan Sweezy each picked up a win on the mound for STAC.
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team was recognized by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America for their team GPA for the 2009-2010 academic year. The Lady Spartans had a team GPA of 3.31.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced the 2010 Team Academic Award winners and three ECC squads were named recipients. Along with the Lady Spartans were the Dowling men’s soccer team as well as the University of Bridgeport women. A total of 635 soccer teams (194 men and 441 women) across the three divisions posted a grade point average of 3.0 or higher to garner NSCAA Team Academic Award.
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team lost at Bridgeport, 10-0 to finish their season. Liz Gronwoldt, Tori Matt and Sarah Rusciano each had one shot on goal for STAC. Jeanette Gibson recorded 15 saves. The Lady Spartans finish at 1-15, 0-7 in the ECC.
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team lost to Chestnut Hill College, 6-0. Liz Gronwoldt had 4 shots for STAC while Nicole Biolsi, Aimee Gomez and Tori Matt each had one. Jeanette Gibson had 10 saves for the Lady Spartans.
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team lost to Bloomfield College, 1-0. Jeanette Gibson had 15 saves for the Lady Spartans. Tori Matt had 4 shots on goal for STAC. Sarah Rusciano also added a shot on goal.
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team lost to Molloy, 5-4. Tori Matt scored two goals for STAC while Sara Rusciano and Liz Gronwoldt each added one. Rusciano along with Maria Morgana and Katherine Dapolito each had assists.
The St. Thomas Aquinas men's & women's soccer teams hosted free soccer clinics for young boys and girls within the local communities. Athletes from both programs taught drills, ran games and served as positive role models to boys and girls ages 4-13.

St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer player Tori Matt was named the ECC Offensive Player of the Week. Matts second half offensive surge helped the Lady Spartans to their first victory of the 2010 campaign against Goldey-Beacom.
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team beat Goldey-Beacom College 3-1 this afternoon. Junior Liz Gronwoldt got the Lady Spartans on the board scoring her first goal of the season off a penalty kick. Tori Matt added two goals for STAC as she leads the Lady Spartans with 7 points.
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team kicked off the 2010 season with a home game against Concordia College. Tori Matt scored the first goal of the game and later added an assist as the Lady Spartans fell 4-2.
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team was selected to finish 8th in the ECC Pre-season poll. STAC finished the 2009 season with a conference record of 0-7. The Lady Spartans return their top goal scorers from last season along with veteran goal keeper Jeanette Gibson, who recorded 124 saves last season.
The St. Thomas Aquinas women's soccer team is proud to announce six newcomers to the Lady Spartan roster. Along with the addition of five freshmen and one junior transfer, STAC welcomes assistant coach Jessica Eichele.
