STAC Drops ECC Opener as Damen Tops Lady Spartans in OT, 2-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to a 2-1 defeat in overtime in their East Coast Conference opener at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans now drop to 1-2-1 on the season and 0-1-0 in ECC play, with Daemen improving to 3-1-1, 1-0-0.

STAC broke on top early when Victoria DeMarco cranked her second goal of the season, a blast from about 30 yards straight out, on an assist from Sarah Colotti at 8:18. The contest remained tightly-played from there with the Lady Spartans carriying that edge into halftime.

Daemen broke even at the 56:34 mark when Celia de Pablo Esteban took a nice touch from Kayla Goeddertz and found the corner of the net to tie the score at 1-1. The Lady Spartans were able to carry the game into extra time, but Aryana Dryer's shot in OT was saved nicely by Courtney Dumain, only to have the rebound tucked in by Kaylyn Phillips to net the Golden Goal at 97:54. Dumain made eight saves overall, while Katelyn White made nine saves for Daemen.

The Lady Spartans play their next two in a row on the road, traveling to Holy Family and Bloomfield before returning home for an ECC contest against Queens College at Spartan Field on Tuesday, September 26, at 1:30 pm.
