Lady Spartans Battle in 1-0 Loss to #12 Ranked LIU Post

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell short in a 1-0 East Coast Conference loss to LIU Post at Spartan Field. The Lady Spartans are now 4-8-1 overall on the season and 2-5 in the ECC, with LIU Post - Ranked #12 in the nation and #4 in the East Region - improved to 13-1-1, 6-0-0.

Despite the prowess of the visitors, STAC held tough in a scoreless first half with LIU Post holding a narrow 7-4 edge in shots. The Pioneers picked up the pressure in the second half and scored quickly on a beautiful marker. Kristen Breihof's corner kick in the opening minutes was right on the spot, with St. Thomas Aquinas netminder Courtney Dumain having no chance on Alice Schoenfelt's header at 47:49.

Post carried the advantage in shots from there but could not secure an insurance goal, as the Lady Spartans remained one shot from the equalizer until the final buzzer. It was the third consecutive game that STAC was defeated by a 1-0 count, and Dumain has allowed just three goals over the last five games, despite posting a 2-3 record over that span. Dumain's eight saves was the highlight for the hosts, dropping her goals against average to an impressive 1.35 on the season. LIUP ended the day with a 16-5 advantage in shots.

The Lady Spartans play their home finale on Monday, Octobet 23, when Washington Adventist visits Spartan Field. Senior Day festivities will precede the 3:00 pm kick.
