Lady Spartans Fall in Women's Soccer Opener at Goldey-Beacom, 4-0

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team opened the 2018 season with a 4-0 road setback at the hands of Goldey-Beacom College. The game was the first of the season for both squads.

An evenly-played first half saw the game remain scoreless until 35:22, when Jenna Fallon converted a long ball in the box and beat STAC netminder Courtney Dumain to put the hosts on top at 1-0. That goal held up through halftime, with each team recording six shots.

St. Thomas Aquinas had some early opportunities after the break but were unable to hit the net when Melayna Immediato sent a long shot into the net for the Lightning at 58:03 to provide a big insurance marker. GBC added two goals in quick succession to close out the scoring, despite being outshot by a 14-10 margin for the game, with the Lady Spartans holding an 11-1 margin in corner kicks.

The game was the first of three straight on the road to start the season for STAC, which returns to action on Tuesday, September 4 in a 3:30 start at Dominican. They travel to Daemen on September 8 before playing their home opener against Mercy College on Saturday, September 15 at 11:00 am.
