Moreau's Golden Goal Lifts STAC to 2-1 OT Victory over Holy Family

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team captured a 2-1 overtime victory in a non-conference battle against Holy Family University. The Lady Spartans improve to 6-4-1 overall, with Holy Family falling to 8-3-1.

STAC got on the board first when Sarah Colotti was taken down in the box, converting the penalty kick to put the hosts on top, 1-0, after just 8:18 of play. Holy Family carried the majority of the possession through the middle of the first half before Bree Rock made a nifty move to create room for Kaitlyn Findlay, who hit the net at 23:25 to tie the game at 1-1.

Holy Family created some distance in shots and corner kicks in the second half but were unable to put home the go-ahead goal largely on the strength of Lady Spartans goalkeeper Courtney Dumain, whose spectacular diving save in the waning minutes sent the game to extra time.

From the opening whistle, STAC pushed the attack with some of their best forward movement of the day, culminating in the game-winning goal. The hosts forced a turnover at midfield and were off to the races, with Caitlin Speranza starting a nice run up the middle before sending a nice touch to Mekenzi Moreau, who broke in alone on Tigers netminder Brianna Pudlo. Moreau's shot was on target, actually going through the net to cause some hesitation before St. Thomas Aquinas broke into a Golden Goal celebration at 94:20.

Dumain made eight saves in another strong performance to secure the win despite her squad being outshot by a 15-8 margin overall. The senior keeper is currently ranked fourth in the ECC in goals against average (1.08) and save percentage (.842)

The Lady Spartans have now won two of their last three at home and will be back on friendly turf hosting Molloy College on Saturday, October 13, with start time set for 2:30 pm.
