STAC Drops Women's Soccer Heartbreaker to Concordia, 2-1, in Double OT

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to a tough 2-1 defeat in double-overtime against Concordia College at Spartan Field. The Spartans remain winless on the season at 0-4 while Concordia improved to 1-2.

Though STAC carried the play in the first half, it was Concordia who posted the only tally of the session as Leigh-Ann Ramsey converted at 26:31 on an assist from Sara Calvert. The Spartans outshot the visitors by a 6-2 margin in the first 45 minutes, but five saves by Clippers' netminder Sophia Cogan kept her team on top.

St. Thomas Aquinas finally broke through when Amandajane Fuchs-White found the net for her first collegiate goal at 59:05, with Julianna Hanigan recording the assist. STAC outshot the Clippers by a decisive 18-7 margin through 90 minutes, but Cogan's nine saves kept the game at 1-1, setting the stage for extra time. After 10 scoreless minutes, the game headed to the second overtime and Calvert put in the Golden Goal at 105:39 with Jimena Garcia-Risoto picking up the assist. Cogan took the win to improve to 1-1, with Alessandra Santoriello coming in at halftime and taking the loss for the hosts.

The Spartans play the next two at home, facing Dominican College in a 3:00 pm start on Wednesday, September 18, then the East Coast Conference schedule kicks off as STAC hosts the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, September 21, with an 11:00 am start as the front end of a double-header with the men's teams squaring off at 1:00 pm.
