Moreau's Early Goal Not Enough as STAC Falls to St. Anselm, 3-1

The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's soccer team fell to a 3-1 defeat against St. Anselm in the home opener at Spartan Field. The Spartans drop to 0-3 with the loss, while St. Anselm improves to 2-0-1 overall.

Though the hosts came in as the underdogs, fans barely had time to settle in before STAC got on the scoreboard, as Mekenzi Moreau took a feed from Sarah Colotti and sent a low shot into the corner of the net at 2:18. The Spartans had the better of the play in the opening minutes but St. Anselm found it's stride. Though the Hawks ended the half with an 8-2 advantage in shots, St. Thomas Aquinas carried that one goal lead into intermission.

Continuing to carry the attack, the visitors finally drew even when Liz Shaievitz headed home a perfect corner from Nicole White to even the score at 53:19. Just over 10 minutes later, it was White with the finish, driving home a Caly Farina cross to give the Hawks their first lead at 63:53. Still within striking distance, St. Thomas Aquinas was unable to find the equalizer and Bailey Conti's marker at 80:55 provided the final margin.

Colleen Stevens started and took the loss in net despite making seven saves, while Payton Wildrick turned aside three for St. A's, which led the final shots tally by a 17-5 total.

The Spartans play their next three straight at home, hosting Concordia College on Saturday, September 14 in a 1:00 pm start at Spartan Field. Rival Dominican College then pays a visit on Wednesday, September 18 before STAC opens its East Coast Conference schedule against the University of Bridgeport on Saturday, September 21.
