Spartans Slip Past Felician, 3-2 on Fuchs-White Goal in Final Seconds

Lyndhurst, N.J. – The St. Thomas Aquinas Women's Soccer team slipped past Felician University, 2-1 on an Amandajane Fuchs-White goal in the final moments of the match on Wednesday afternoon at the Lyndhurst Recreation Center in New Jersey. The Spartans improved to 4-6, while the Golden Falcons moved to 1-9.

How it Happened

  • The Spartans took a 1-0 advantage in the second minute of the match, as Caitlin Speranza tallied her fourth goal of the season on a touch strike from 15 yards out, which deflected into the net past Felician keeper Brieanna Martins.
  • Lindsey Riera would tie the score in the ninth minute on a short thru ball from teammate Paloma Garcia. The shot by Riera would go off of the hands of STAC goalie Colleen Stevens and into the net to make it 1-1.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas would take the lead again in the 32nd minute via an own goal by Felician on a cross-field shot that was deflected into the net by a Golden Falcons' defender.
  • STAC held a 2-0 lead after 45 minutes of play.
  • Felician would tie the match up at two goals apiece on Nicole Jenal header off of a corner kick by Carlie Koziol in the 53rd minute.
  • The game winning goal for the Spartans would come in the 90th minute, as Amandajane Fuchs-White would steal the ball from Felician goalie Brienna Martins, who was trying to run out the clock to force overtime, and deposited it to the back of the net to clinch the 3-2 victory for St. Thomas Aquinas.
