Women's Soccer Season Ends with 6-0 Defeat at Molloy

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team fell to Molloy College, 6-0 on Saturday afternoon in the team's 2021 regular season finale at the RVC Sports Complex in Rockville Centre. The loss drops the Spartans to 4-11 (2-7 ECC), while the Lions improve to 15-2 (8-1 ECC).
 
How it Happened

  • The host Lions got on the board in the fifth minute as Dana Poetzsch took a pass from teammate Carli Fonseca, rounded goalkeeper Alessandra Santoriello and fired it into the empty net to make it 1-0.
  • Dana Poetzsch doubled the Lions' lead in the 22nd minute after being played a through ball by Annie Coogan.
  • Annie Coogan got on the scoresheet in the 37th minute firing home a low cross-field pass from Joanna Graca, making it 3-0 Molloy at halftime.
  • In the 58th minute, Lexi Verni's shot from 20 yards out was initially stopped by the Spartans' keeper Santoriello, but it bounced in to make it 4-0.
  • Nicole Fabris tallied Molloy's fifth with 20 minutes to go in the match after putting it into the net from the edge of the box.
  • In the 83rd minute, the Lions scored their sixth and final goal on the day as Brianna Glover would net her first of the afternoon, unassisted.
