Offensive Explosion Propels Women's Soccer to 8-0 Victory over Lincoln

Sparkill, N.Y – The St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team flashed its offensive firepower in an 8-0 East Coast Conference home win over Lincoln University on Saturday afternoon at Spartan Field in Sparkill.

The Spartans (2-3, 1-0 ECC) grabbed their first conference win and picked up a much needed three points in the standings. Six different STAC players tallied a goal against the Lions (0-3, 0-1 ECC), led by a pair of goals from Caitlin Speranza and Amandajane Fuchs-White.

Colette Martucci also had a productive offensive outing, scoring the final goal of the match and dishing out three assists. Rachel Brownell, Reilly Henry and Jacquelyn Kaplan accounted for the remaining three STAC scores.

St. Thomas Aquinas led Lincoln in shots, 36-4, and corners, 11-2. Alessandra Santoriello (W, 1-1) made three stops in between the pipes.
 
ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES

  • STAC claimed its first conference win of the year.
  • The eight-goal output was the highest by an Spartan squad since defeating Lincoln, 9-1, on Oct. 19, 2019.
  • Speranza and Fuchs-White scored their team-best second and third goals of the season.
  • Brownell and Henry both recorded their first collegiate goals.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas outshot the opposition for the second time this year.
  • The Spartans logged double-digit shots for the second time in five outings.

 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Spartans wasted no time jumping out to an early lead. Rachel Brownell would put the ball to the back of the net on a Colette Martucci pass in the 6th minute of the match.
  • Just seconds later, Reilly Henry would score on a give and go with Amandajane Fuchs-White to make it 2-0 STAC.
  • In the 15th minute, Fuchs-White would score a goal on a Martucci dish, pushing the lead to 3-0.
  • The final maroon and gold tally of the first half would come in the 23rd minute, as Caitlin Speranza would put the ball to the back of net with help from Merari Rodriguez to give St. Thomas Aquinas a 4-0 advantage at the half.
  • In the late stages of the second half, Jacquelyn Kaplan and Amandajane Fuchs-White would net back-to-back unassisted goals in the 71st minute, giving STAC a 6-0 lead.
  • In the 86th minute, Speranza picked up her second goal of the contest on a series of quick passes by Kaplan and Martucci to make it 7-0.
  • St. Thomas Aquinas would close out the scoring in the 87th minute with Martucci tallying a goal on a feed from Speranza, making it 8-0.
