STAC Women's Soccer Overpowers Bloomfield, 3-0

Sparkill, N.Y. In the second home game of its 2021 schedule, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Soccer team put on an offensive showcase, featuring three goals from three different Spartans in a 3-0 win over the Bloomfield College Bears on Sunday afternoon at Spartan Field in Sparkill.

Amandajane Fuchs-White, Ileana Santiago and Caitlin Speranza shined on offense today, scoring each of the three goals to lift the Spartans to their first win of the season. Rachel Brownell (2) and Colette Martucci added assists in helping a Spartans' squad that fired off a total of 20 shots in the contest, 13 of which ended up on goal.

How it Happened

STAC came out of the gates with energy quickly moving the ball up the field into Bears territory. Reilly Henry took the first shot for the Spartans just a minute into the game. Six more shots from Rachel Brownell, Merari Rodriguez, Caitlin Speranza (2), Amandajane Fuchs-White and Katarina Ott missed the mark, before Fuchs-White was able to take a Brownell pass and tuck it in behind the right post and keeper Mia Phillip in the 29th minute to break the scoreless tie.

The Spartans would follow up the Fuchs-White tally with four additional shots, before the buzzer would sound ending the first half.

St. Thomas Aquinas did not take their feet off the gas pedal in the second half, as they continued to out work Bloomfield in the attacking zone, creating eight shots in the process. Ileana Santiago would tally the Spartans second goal in the 50th minute, when Bears goalie Mia Phillip would knock down a cross in the goal area by Rachel Brownell, right onto Santiago's foot for an easy tap in to make it 2-0.

The action did not stop there, as STAC Captain Caitlin Speranza would take a pass from teammate Colette Martucci and spin around a Bloomfield defender to get off a shot that would beat Phillip on the far post to extend the Spartan lead to 3-0 with just over five minutes left in the contest.

STAC would play keep away with the ball and run out the clock on Bloomfield, sealing their first victory of 2021.

Colleen Stevens recorded one save on the day to lift St. Thomas Aquinas to the 3-0 shutout win.
