SPARKILL, NY – The St. Thomas Aquinas College women's tennis team kept their unblemished record intact this weekend, sweeping all three of their East Coast Conference matches with Western New York foes D'Youville College and Daemen College. The wins pushed them to a program best 5-0 start to the season.
On Saturday morning, the Spartans took down the Saints 7-0 before a brief respite where they then defeated the Wildcats 7-0 in the afternoon. All twelve members of the STAC squad recorded multiple wins on the weekend. Dauphine Donker, Flaminia Valci, Katarina Lopez, and Brooke Lopez each went a combined 4-0 on the weekend, with all four of their victories coming against D'Youville. Sunday's doubles win gave grad student Katarina Lopez was the 35th of her career, marking a new program record. She is already the program leader in singles and combined wins. Maya O'Brien recorded her 24th career doubles win on Sunday, putting her in a tie for 6th all-time with her sister Sara O'Brien '18.
Against Daemen, Karina Blas went a perfect 2-0 with wins at first doubles and first singles. Jemima Parkinson paired with Ayesha Burnett at second doubles for a win, with both competitors following suit with wins at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Viktoriia Pavlovets and Eliza Mulder kept their doubles record pristine, giving them a team-leading 4-0 mark.
The Spartans are next up as they host Atlantic Region foe Kutztown University on Tuesday in a double-header with the men. First serve is set for noon, weather permitting.
