On Sunday, the St. Thomas Aquinas College Women's Triathlon team competed in the Long Beach Island Triathlon at Brant Beach, NJ. Again for the third week of competition, the Spartans showed no signs of slowing down.
Great performances on the day by freshmen Stefania Georgiou, Kristie Hanlon and Sylvie Bischof lead the Spartans to place first, second and fifth respectively in their age group, finishing in times of 1:01:36, 1:04:46 and 1:12:07. Stefania and Kristie showed true strength as Hanlon, again for the third week, was the first Spartan out of the water, swimming a ¼ mile in 7:10 seconds. Right behind her were Bischof and Georgiou at 7:12 and 7:14. Stefania had a terrific day on the bike, getting back into the transition area first overall for the women's group. Other standout performances include junior Jennyfer Huerta, who had an amazing run in the 5K portion of her race running a 15:04 and finishing in a time of 1:05:51. Huerta placed first in her age group and eleventh overall for women.
The Spartans will be back in action on October 20, when the St. Thomas Aquinas Triathletes head to Huddleston, Virginia for the Women's Collegiate Triathlon East Regional Qualifier.
